Baton Rouge, LA: BR Police arrest man in stabbing death of former girlfriend

Baton Rouge Police have arrested a 51-year-old man in the Thursday night stabbing death of his former girlfriend and stabbing injury of a man who sought to intervene.
Jerome M. Mellion, 143 Oklahoma St., was taken into custody early Friday and is to be booked on first-degree murder in the death of 48-year-old Wanda Ortiz, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
Police responded to the domestic dispute about 9:50 p.m. Thursday at 3225 Plank Road, McKneely said. Mellion also is accused of stabbing a 46-year-old man who sought to intervene, McKneely said.
The 46-year-old man suffered “moderate” injuries,” McKneely said. Mellion faces attempted first-degree murder charges in that stabbing, McKneely said.
The motive of the stabbing, McKneely said, appeared to stem from Ortiz and Mellion having broken up. “He didn’t like the fact that she was seeing somebody else,” McKneely added.
