Elgin, IL: Bond set for Elgin girlfriend in frying pan murder case

ELGIN — Bond has been set at $750,000 for an Elgin woman accused of killing her boyfriend during a domestic dispute by hitting him on the head with a frying pan.

Nora P. Peterson, 34, of 132 S. State St. (Route 31), Apt. 7, faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly striking Michael N. Mielczarek, 55, of the same address, in the head with a frying pan Saturday at their home.

Police said they were called about 3:47 p.m. to the apartment on a report of a person not breathing and found Mielczarek unresponsive and not breathing.

Elgin Fire Department paramedics took Mielczarek to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed Monday by the Kane County Coroner’s office showed he had three head wounds — at least one that likely came from the frying pan, and one from hitting the floor.
