Police are investigating a double homicide late Friday night at a Blissfield home that also left a third person injured. The shooting happened around 11:40 p.m., according to the Blissfield Police Department.
Police said information available at the moment indicates two women, ages 34 and 24, were shot and killed by the estranged boyfriend of one of the women. The third victim, who is the mother of the two women who were killed, is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police are describing Thomas Jack Fritz, 38, of Sylvania, Ohio, as a person of interest. He is described as a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 186 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He is believed to be driving a maroon or burgundy 2002 Honda four-door car with Ohio license plate EQP 8075.
The suspect may have been headed to Ohio and is believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him or his vehicle is asked to contact police immediately and not approach him. Anyone with questions can call Michigan State Police operations at 517-241-8000.
Fritz served one year for a 2007 sexual battery conviction out of Wood County, Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
When Blissfield police responded to a 911 call from one of the victims, they discovered three people had been shot, two fatally.
A team from the Michigan State Police crime lab in Northville was in Blissfield this morning processing the scene.
Sgt. Aaron Hunt from the Adrian detachment of the Michigan State Police Monroe post said the mother had been taken to a hospital in Toledo and was going into surgery this morning, but was well enough that she had been able to speak to a detective.
Hunt said Blissfield police were assisted by troopers from Monroe and Adrian, the Lenawee County Sheriff's Department and the county's deputy medical examiner. He said local police and fire departments kept the scene clear last night of people who were in town for the River Raisin Festival, which is going on all weekend.
"With the festival going on, there were all kinds of people over here," he said.
