Riverside, CA: RIVERSIDE: Homicide victim linked to apparent train suicide

Riverside police are investigating the killing of a woman in her apartment as a potential murder–suicide after her boyfriend was struck and killed by a train shortly after her death Friday morning, June 15.
A family member discovered the body of Kathryn Sanchez, 34, at 9:15 a.m. in her apartment in the 8800 block of Indiana Avenue, south of Monroe Street, Riverside police Lt. Guy Toussaint said.
Sanchez had a history of domestic violence with an estranged boyfriend, Riverside police Officer Bryan Galbreath said.

No one reported hearing any screams or cries of distress prior to the slaying. In the morning, Sanchez’s family tried to wake her before realizing she had been killed. Police said the woman suffered obvious injuries to indicate a homicide.
In reviewing her history, they began a search for her boyfriend, who had been accused of several domestic violence incidents.
Riverside County coroner’s officials confirmed that the boyfriend was the same man who was killed by a train at 1:25 a.m., less than three miles from where the woman was killed. Police are considering the man as a person of interest in the case until all other suspects can be ruled out.
Homicide detectives are investigating the cause of Sanchez’s death, but believe the man may have killed her in her apartment, then went to kill himself by lying on the train tracks.
The coroner’s office said the man was seen walking onto the tracks and into the path of an oncoming train, about 300 yards west of Mary Street near Indiana Avenue.
The man’s name was not released Friday.
