Clay County, FL: Man kills wife, self, shoots 2nd woman

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -
A man shot and killed his wife, before shooting and killing himself, and shooting another woman in an Argyle Forest neighborhood late Friday afternoon, the Clay County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

Clay County deputies responded to the shootings in the 400 block of Thornberry Road just before 5:30 p.m.

A witness said a woman was found lying in the front yard of a home with a gunshot wound. She said another woman, the man's wife, then ran into a neighbor's house and said to call 911.

"I heard a gunshot and I opened up my bathroom window and all I hear is someone screaming 'Call 911,'" witness Renee Wallace said.

The man, who Wallace identified as David Hayes, walked out of the home with a shotgun, went into the home where his wife, Cynthia, was hiding and shot and killed her, according to Wallace.

"He ran her down like a dog and shot her," said Carmen Hambrick, a friend Cynthia Hayes.

Wallace said David Hayes then went back into his home and shot himself.

Deputies said Hayes survived but died at the hospital later. The unidentified woman also survived and remained in surgery at Orange Park Medical Center in very critical condition Friday night.
