North Highands, CA: Sacramento deputy kills suspect after struggle

Sacramento County sheriff's officials say a deputy shot and killed a suspect in a domestic violence dispute who allegedly attacked him.

Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos says the shooting at a home in North Highlands late Tuesday night.

According to Ramos, the suspect apparently tackled the deputy and began punching him in the head then tried to grab the deputy's gun belt. The deputy, fearing for his life, pulled out his firearm and shot the suspect several times in the upper body.

The coroner identified the suspect as 24-year-old Johnathan William Rose, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Officials have not released the name of the 31-year-old deputy, who has been with the department for eight years. He was placed on paid leave pending the shooting investigation.
