A Mountain Home man was arrested after police said he killed his ex-girlfriend's Chihuahua by putting it in the washing machine.
On Friday, police received a call that Gary E. Jackson, 30, was trashing his ex-girlfriend's apartment off Eighth Street, according to a Mountain Home Police Department news release.
The victim, who was not home at the time of the incident, said she was worried Jackson was going to destroy her belongings and said he had threatened to kill her dog.
When officers arrived, they found the apartment in disarray and many of the victim's belongings were destroyed. Officers found a dead Chihuahua in the washing machine, and believe Jackson had put the dog in the appliance while it was alive, said Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel.
Police arrested Jackson on aggravated cruelty to animals and first-degree criminal mischief, both class D felonies, according to the release.
He was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center with bail at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on Jan. 26.
The state's animal cruelty law changed in 2009 to make aggravated cruelty to dogs, cats and horses a felony on the first offense.
