NEAR SANDY, Ore. - A man is in jail after police said he took his girlfriend's husky out into the country, stabbed it and then just walked away.
According to Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies, Ross Worley confessed to killing the dog and even gave them his reason why.
What Worley didn't realize was someone saw him do it in a secluded spot just outside Sandy.
"(I) watched him for three minutes before I saw him begin to start stabbing a gray dog," said the man who only wanted to be identified as John. "Just coming down the road, saw a pickup parked where it shouldn’t be parked on the trespass. Went to check it out."
Up the logging road, down in the brush close to the creek, John said Worley stabbed the two-year-old dog named Indyana four times, walked away, cleaned up and then drove off in his company truck.
"Animals are my life," John said. "All I do is work with animals and stuff. It tugs on me. Owner of dogs and everything else too. And stabbing is such a brutal, it's a very personal thing. When someone's doing that or holding something and doing that – yeah, you gotta wonder what’s going through their mind."
John, a ranch hand, called the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. According to deputies, Worley confessed and said the dog was caught killing chickens in the couple's southeast Portland neighborhood.
The dog was then considered potentially dangerous but his girlfriend reportedly refused to get rid of her, so he did.
"Unfortunately, that's not the first dog that's ever killed chickens," said John. "There's other ways of dealing with it. The dog could have had a good home someplace else."
Worley is in jail on animal abuse charges.
The sheriff's office said Worley told them he considered just letting the dog go but she was chipped and he didn't want her coming back.
KATU News checked and found the dog was classified as potentially dangerous back in May.
