Cabot, AR: Cabot police release new details into deadly officer-involved shooting

CABOT – Authorities are starting to come forward with more information on a deadly shootout between Cabot Police and a suspect early Saturday morning.

An officer shot and killed a suspect after police say he drew his weapon on the officer just after 1 A.M. Police were initially responding to a domestic disturbance call that appeared to involved the suspect and his girlfriend.

Once officers arrive, the suspect allegedly became uncooperative.

"(The officer) went to pat down the male subject, felt a gun, the male suspect then pulled away from the officer, drew his weapon, the officer drew his, and they exchanged gunfire," said Lt. Brent Lucas, spokesperson for the Cabot Police Department.

The suspect was later pronounced dead at North Metro Hospital in nearby Jacksonville. No one else suffered any injuries.

No names are being released at this time.

As for the officer, he's been placed on paid administrative leave pending results of an investigation.

The Arkansas State Police are also assisting with an investigation.
