Benicia police have arrested 28-year-old Adam Wade Disa of Benicia on suspicion of murdering his 26-year-old live-in girlfriend Katherine Gillihan. The suspect and the victim shared a residence in the 800 block of Military East.

Disa, on parole for a 2004 Santa Clara County felony assault conviction and paroled in 2008, was booked into the Solano County Jail in Fairfield.

Police were called to the couple’s home Friday by firefighters who had responded to a call of a woman having a medical problem. Fire department paramedics found Gillihan’s body in a bedroom in the home.

The Benicia Police Department was called to the scene and determined the case should be investigated as a homicide. Police found Disa with the help of the North Bay California Parole Apprehension Team at the Taco Bell parking lot at 10:12 p.m.

According to police, Disa admitted to a confrontation with Gillihan on Wednesday morning that resulted in her death.

"We're at a point where we can't release any further details about the actual homicide at this time," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "Our investigators will now work with the Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death and verify Disa's statement that he provided. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday."

This is Benicia's first homicide of 2011. The last homicide in the city was a murder-suicide in April of 2010.
