South Linden, OH: Police: Infant boy dies amid couple's dispute Father repeatedly threw 3-month-old child onto pavement

A 3-month-old baby boy died last night after, police say, the child was repeatedly thrown to the ground by his father during a dispute at a South Linden home.

The child, whose name wasn't released early this morning, died at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus police said. The father faces a murder charge.

The situation began around 9:45 p.m. with a domestic-violence call to 1121 E. 16th Ave., where the boy's father, Quindell Sherman, 20, was in an argument with the boy's mother, Sonja Mitchell, said Homicide Det. Robert Connor.

Sherman threw the baby to the pavement outside the house several times during the fight, then picked up the infant and fled with him, police said.

Sherman ran about a block to E. 17th Avenue, where witnesses said police searched for him and the baby.

Wayne Green, who lives on that street, said he saw police cruisers going up and down the street, then heard police yell that the man was hiding in a Dumpster.

"I heard them yell, 'Freeze!'" Green said.

He said he then saw police drag the man from the trash container. Officers also found the baby in the bin and ran with the child to a cruiser, where police gave him cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived.

Police arrested Sherman, who has been charged with murder.
