Montgomery County Police are releasing details from Saturday’s fatal crash in the Calverton area.

Officers responding to a report of a domestic dispute at a restaurant shortly after 3:00 p.m. spoke to a women who claimed her boyfriend took their 11-month-old daughter after an argument, police said.

The woman told them her boyfriend, identified as Edwin Samuel Barber, took her van without permission.

Police said Barber refused to stop when they tried to pull him over on Cherry Hill Road. Barber crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an SUV, police said.

One of the SUV’s passengers, Terrance Alexander Blackwell, 46, of Hyattsville, died at the scene. The SUV’s driver and two other passengers were hurt.

Barber and his daughter were also taken to nearby hospitals.
Original post:

One person was killed and several others injured Saturday afternoon in a two-car collision in Silver Spring, Montgomery County police said.

Capt. Paul Starks, a police spokesman, said authorities believed that "there was some police involvement" in the crash or what led up to it.

But he said no details were immediately available. "To what degree" police were involved, he said, "we're not sure."

He said a preliminary investigation indicated that a van with two occupants was headed east on Cherry Hill Road near Gracefield Road about 3:30 p.m. The van collided with an sport-utility vehicle that was carrying four people. One of those in the SUV was killed, Starks said.
