SEATTLE – A Covington woman has filed a lawsuit against the City of Seattle and Seattle Police Department for allegedly turning away the man who shot her after he confessed to the crime.
According to the lawsuit, on Sept. 16, 2007, Tri Minh Vo shot and killed Tina Nguyen's boyfriend, Duc Van Nguyen, and then shot Tina at their home on SE 286th Street.
According to the lawsuit, Vo shot her in the body and head, then tried to strangle her with electrical cord.
The complaint alleges that Vo walked into the South Police Precinct at 3001 South Myrtle Street in an attempt to turn himself in, confessing that he had just shot one or two people.
According to the lawsuit, when officers asked Vo where the shooting took place, he said he did not know the specific address. Officers allegedly sent Vo home and did not pay any attention to him.
Nguyen lay on the floor for two days, with a skull fracture and bullet wound in her shoulder. Her attorney says she managed to crawl out of the house and to a neighbor's home for help.
On Sept. 18, the same day Nguyen managed to reach help, Vo returned to the South Precinct and at that time, police took him into custody.
He was later sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder and first degree assault charge.
