September 24, 2010

(SEATTLE, WA) -- No one yet knows what set the West Seattle woman off to the point where she would take a gun and try to massacre her immediate family, but at the end of the carnage Thursday afternoon four people were dead from gunshot wounds including the suspected shooter and a fifth was in the hospital with gunshot wounds.

An as yet unidentified woman, believed to be in her 50’s and of Cambodian heritage, reportedly shot four members of her own family Thursday afternoon before dying herself from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

The only survivor of the rampage, a 42-year-old daughter of the suspected killer told police " My mom's gone crazy," according to Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel who talked with reporters at the scene, a house located in the 9400 block of 14th Ave. SW.

Killed in the shooting were the 42-year old survivor’s husband and two daughters who were described as in their teens.

The incident unfolded about 1:30 p.m. after 911 calls came in describing gunshots fired in the neighborhood.

As police arrived more shots were heard. Police SWAT team members who happened to be nearby on another call were sent to the scene and the entire area was cordoned off.

As police were still arriving a man described as in 50s ran past police and into the house then two more shots were heard. Then the man ran out of the house, telling police his wife had shot herself.

The surviving woman was reported to be in satisfactory condition last night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police found 2 handguns in the house. A motive for the killings is not yet known.
