MERCED, Calif.—A Merced school bus driver has been arrested in the stabbing death of his elementary school teacher wife.
Merced police said Monday that 41-year-old Rudy Romero is in custody at a hospital where he is being treated for stab wounds.
The body of his wife, 44-year-old Diane Romero, was found in the backyard swimming pool of the couple's Merced home with stab wounds Thursday.
Rudy Romero was in critical condition when police found him in the backyard. Police say he is being guarded at the hospital until he recovers enough to be transferred to jail.
Diane Romero taught 3rd grade at Peterson Elementary School in Merced for 13 years.
