Man dies after setting his own home on fire - MacKenzie Bates Reports

A man committed suicide by burning down his own home Thursday afternoon.

It happened at the man's home on Jack Arnett Branch Road in Prestonsburg in Floyd County.

State Police say 58-year-old Phillip Anthony Horn told officers he wanted to kill them and then set his own home on fire.

Horn reportedly told neighbors the he wanted to kill himself and burn his home Wednesday evening and tried to borrow a handgun from his neighbor, after having an emergency protective order served against him and approximately twenty firearms taken from his possession by Floyd County Deputy Sheriff's Deputies.

State Police say firefighters at the scene could not battle the fire for fear of being shot at by Horn. Officers first first on the scene reportedly heard Horn fire what they believed was a gunshot inside the residence.

After the fire was put out, the Middle Creek Fire Department found a body believed to be Horn.
