A woman who told 911 operators her husband was becoming violent was later found dead by the officers who responded.

The Caldwell County Sheriff's Department identified the woman as Glenda Dian Peck, who was shot to death Saturday. Deputies said they charged her husband, Herbert Lawrence Peck, 68, with murder after they found him hiding in the closet.

The 911 call came from 3190 Covington Way in Lenoir, where the couple lived. The woman on the line said her husband was having a medical problem and getting violent. But 911 dispatchers lost contact with her before officers got to the house.

When officers arrived, the doors to the house were locked, but they could see a woman lying on the floor. They forced their way inside and found she was dead. Herbert Peck was in the Caldwell County jail Saturday with no bond. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
