BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Police in Palm Beach County, Fla., said a 49-year-old man is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend after being found in an apartment with her body.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel said Christopher Sharpe was facing first-degree murder charges at Palm Beach County Jail Wednesday, a day after he allegedly was found in the same apartment as the body of Pamela Powers.

Police said Tuesday night's discovery by SWAT officers using a search warrant came in response to concerns from Powers' roommate about the 36-year-old woman's disappearance on Oct. 30.

Powers previously accused Sharpe of beating her with his fists and a horse whip during an argument, a police report said. The incident resulted in Sharpe being charged with domestic battery by strangulation and other battery counts on July 10.

Sharpe was previously arrested on various other charges including driving on a suspended license, marijuana possession and driving under the influence.

Police told the Sun-Sentinel that Powers, who disappeared on her way to attend a Halloween party, had been dead awhile before Tuesday's discovery.
