John R. Moore III has agreed to plead guilty to the Oct. 19, 2008, killing of a Purdue University psychologist he found in his estranged wife's bedroom that morning.
Moore was scheduled for trial Nov. 11 on one count of murder. But in a negotiated plea agreement signed by Moore and submitted in Monroe Circuit Judge Kenneth Todd's court today, he agrees to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter instead.
The maximum jail sentence for murder is 60 years. For voluntary manslaughter, it's 50 years. The agreement, also signed by deputy prosecutor Joseph Lozano, states the sentence is up to Judge Todd. The state also promises not to pursue any other charges against Moore in connection to the death or 59-year-old Steven Morris.

The agreement is not valid until it is accepted by the judge. A hearing on the matter may be held later this week.
