Waukesha, WI: Funeral For Woman Allegedly Killed By Ex-Boyfriend

By Tom Murray
WAUKESHA - Samantha Peterson's family asked guests at her funeral Friday evening to wear pink and turquoise ribbons, her favorite colors. The 21-year-old woman was killed by a man who had been released from prison just four days before her death, police said.

"Sam was a beautiful young woman with an infectious laugh and smile," the family said in a statement. "She had many goals and aspirations that will never be realized."

Her family wants Samantha to be remembered as loving, selfless and happy. She graduated from UW-Waukesha in May and had been working at a bank.

Samantha used to date the man suspected in her murder.

"What happened to my sister is devastating," Kelsey Peterson said in a message to TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Tom Murray. "Nobody deserves to die like the way my sister did and perhaps what made this even worse is that he claimed to love her."

Samantha was found dead in a car in a Waukesha neighborhood. Police say she was killed by a 29-year-old man she used to date. He has a violent criminal history and Samantha's family members always feared he was trouble.

The suspect is now in custody at the Waukesha County Jail. He spent several days in the hospital after his arrest. Police said he did something to himself that required medical attention before they took him into custody.

Investigators are speaking to witnesses and plan to file homicide charges next week.
