Birmingham woman killed in an apparent murder- suicide

Homicide Update

To date, thirty- eight (38) chargeable Homicides have been reported in the City of Birmingham during 2009, compared to forty-eight (48) at this time in 2008.

Homicide #38: Occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at approximately 12:45 a.m., at 3925 Howard Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama.

The victim has been identified as:
Tiffany Smith, 27, B/F, of 3035 Pebble Creek Parkway, Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers from the West Precinct were dispatched and responded to the incident location on a report of a female shot. Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying outside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Officer received information from a witness that the suspect shot the victim. While investigating the incident, officers observed the suspect approaching the scene in a silver Chevrolet, Impala. As the suspect drove his vehicle in the front of the residence, officers observed him fire one round to his head. Paramedics arrived and pronounced both victim and suspect deceased on the scene.

The suspect has been identified as:
Charlie Coleman, 28, B/M, of 3925 Howard Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama.

Preliminary investigations lead investigators to believe this to be a domestic incident that began at Pebble Creek Parkway earlier in the evening. It was reported that the victim struck the suspect with a pole and shot at him during an argument before following him to the incident location.
