A Roseville man accused of trying to hire someone to kill his ex-wife and her boyfriend has pleaded no contest to one count of solicitation of murder.

David Albers, 52, is to be sentenced June 23 in the case. In exchange for his plea, which avoided a trial that was set to begin this week, a second solicitation charge was dismissed.

Police got a tip in July that Albers wanted to pay someone to kill his ex-wife, prompting an undercover detective to make contact with him and pose as a hit man, authorities said.

Albers was arrested after police said he agreed on a price to kill the woman and her boyfriend.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.
