CROWN POINT, Ind.

A Gary man who told police he stabbed his girlfriend to death because she was cheating on him has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter said Tuesday that he was pleased with 28-year-old Jack Suprenant Jr.'s sentence.

Suprenant was convicted of murder March 12 in the death of 23-year-old Kerry Bruckman. Prosecutors say Suprenant repeatedly stabbed Bruckman during an argument in September 2006 inside the mobile home where they lived. Her body was found lying on a bed.

Police said Suprenant, who surrendered to police outside the mobile home, told them he had stabbed Bruckman.

Bruckman's mother says the couple's three children, who were present, still have nightmares.
