May 22, 2009

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (AP) _ Authorities say a 58-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, whose body was found inside their Buffalo-area home earlier this week.

Police say Stephen Shepherd was brought back to the town of Tonawanda early Friday morning and charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of 42-year-old Constance Ann Shepherd.

Her body was found inside the couple's home on Wednesday but police believe she may have been killed days earlier.

Authorities say Constance Shepherd died from a deep cut to her neck.

Stephen Shepherd was to be arraigned Friday morning. Police didn't know if he had a lawyer.

A nationwide alert was issued for him after his wife's body was found. He was taken into custody Thursday in Shandaken in the Catskills after a police officer spotted him camping.
