Clinton, Ia. — Police say an armed man who held his wife hostage at the Iowa Workforce Development office in Clinton has committed suicide and his wife has been released.

The woman was released at about 8 p.m., according to the Quad-City Times. She isn't being taken to the hospital. She had been held hostage since about 2 p.m., and negotiators had been in contact with the man by phone.

Authorities haven't released the couple's names. They were the only people in the office. The man told the other people in the office to leave, according to the Quad-City Times.

Clinton police Capt. Mike Gertson said the dispute was domestic in nature.
