Clay woman buried in backyard was strangled

The Clay County woman with cerebral palsy who was killed and buried in her backyard was strangled, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The cause of death for 46-year-old Roberta A. Laws was released a day after the Clay grand jury indicted her boyfriend, Kenneth Ray McBride, on one count of first-degree murder. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 22. It wasn’t clear yet if the prosecution will seek the death penalty.

The 35-year-old registered sexual predator is accused of killing her probably in February and burying her in the backyard of the Myrtle Drive home they were sharing in Middleburg.

He was arrested March 31 after another girlfriend who had been staying there sneaked out and called authorities.
